When to fit winter tyres in Estonia: dates and buying plan

In Estonia, the date on the calendar and the condition of the road both matter when planning a tyre change. Booking before the first icy mornings gives you time to check the tyres you own and compare replacements in the approved size.

The dates to remember

According to the Estonian Transport Administration, winter tyres are compulsory for the relevant passenger cars, light vans and trailers from 1 December to 1 March. Studded tyres are normally permitted from 15 October to 31 March; in winter road and weather conditions they may be used from 1 October to 30 April. These are permitted periods, not a reason to drive summer tyres on an icy road.

Choose for your daily route

Consider how often you meet untreated ice, snow and wet asphalt. Studs may be worth considering for regularly icy side roads. For studless winter tyres used in Estonia, check the 3PMSF mountain-and-snowflake symbol; M+S alone is insufficient. Compare the exact models, including wet-grip data on the EU tyre label.

Before you order

  1. Confirm the size, load index and speed rating approved for your vehicle.
  2. Inspect your current tyres for tread depth and damage.
  3. Compare the season, markings, availability and delivery time of the model you choose.

Search Koleso.ee tyres by the complete approved size, then pick the model that matches the roads you use most.
